How to fix the wear
problem on GM
steering systems

Both current factory & aftermark-
et steering systems tend to fail because of an inherent flaw in design.

This Brace Kit design by Cognito Motorsports solves the problem in a new way no one else has thought of. The design works so well, it’s earned a pending patent.

First, let’s discuss how & why wear occurs?

A quick review of GM steering systems

On a GM vehicle, the pitman arm connects to the output shaft of the steering gear box. Turning your steering wheel rotates the pitman arm. A stud protrudes from the pitman arm where the center link connects (called the drag link).

To control steering motion, the center link connects to an idler arm on the vehicle passenger side. The idler arm swings in the same arc as the pitman arm. Two center link mounting points support left & right motion. However, for forward & backward motion, they fail to give enough support.

This lack of support causes pitman & idler arms to wear out. The larger your tires, the faster these joints deteriorate.

Although some aftermarket companies offer a “beefed up” pitman & idler arm, their product still suffers premature wear. The result? Front alignment toe settings will not hold.

“Slop” in pitman & idler arms still allows the center link to move forward & backward. That forward/backward movement sets up a toe-in change which, in turn, can cause extensive irregular & premature front tire wear.

Also, center link swing increases the tie rod angle. The resultant pressure causes broken tie rods.

How the Cognito Pitman & Idler
Brace Kit stops wear

Idler-braceinstalled2-1-2rtlipThis invention provides the support you need to prevent the center link from rocking forward & backward –- the cause of the worn parts.

You can actually revive worn pit-
man & idler arms with the Brace Kit if your OEM parts have less than 40,000 miles. If arms have more miles, we recommend you replace with factory arms & then add the Idler & Pitman Brace Kit.

Special Note

If you already installed a SuperSteer®Idler Arm Support Assem-
bly - SS175 (See it here)
to get tighter steering, you can add Cognito’s Idler & Pitman Brace Kit and convert it into a complete SuperSteer® 4×4 Idler Kit. The 4×4 Idler Kit both tightens steering and cuts the wear.

If you don’t already have the SS175, you can get the whole steering system in one package (the SuperSteer®4×4 Idler Kit) at Henderson’s. For discussion of the benefits of the 4×4 Idler Kit, click here.

Lifetime Warranty Protects You

The Cognito Motorsports Idler & Pitman Brace Kit is warranted by Hendersons/SuperSteer® as long as you own your vehicle.

Warranty does not apply to 4×4’s that employ
extreme modified lift kits
